Appearance

The smallest breed in the world is the Chihuahua, named for the Mexican state of
Chihuahua. The Chihuahua is graceful, alert, swift-moving little dog with a saucy
expression. There are two distinct breed types of the Chihuahua, one with a long
coat of soft texture, the other with a short coat. The Chihuahua is a bright eyed, dainty
dog that is perfect for apartment living

Temperament

Chihuahuas are prized for their devotion, ferocity and personality. Their curious
nature and small size make them easily adaptable to a variety of environments,
including the city and small apartments. Chihuahuas are often stereotyped as
high-strung, though it has been shown that correct training and socialization can
result in an outstanding companion animal.

History

The Chihuahua was discovered in Mexico about 100 years ago. The true origins of
their ancestors is still a mystery. It is said they were bred from the small dogs know
among the Toltecs of Mexico in the ninth century. Others believed the Chihuahua was
the sacred dog of the Aztecs and thirdly there is a possibility they may have existed in
Egypt some 3,000 years ago.
